MARINERS
REWARD YOUNG TIGER'S AMAZING DEDICATION
Feb 2: Although
there hasn't been a lot for Mariners fans the crowd at this
weekend's match against Newcastle should raise the roof in
recognition of a remarkable young man from our club who will
be the official game day mascot and will lead the team onto the
field. The Mariners honour will cap a memorable month or so for
11-year-old Joshua Rayner who has already been awarded the 'Take
5' magazine's 'Young Carer of the Year' as well as the Gosford
City Council Australia Day Committee "Youth of the Year"
award. Josh's mother, Shelley, suffers from Crohn's Disease and
needs continual care. Josh's father, Martin, takes up the story:
"Last year a scheduled three-day stay in hospital turned into
a seven-week nightmare. During this period Josh would question the
nurses and doctors on what medication and procedures Shelley was
getting and would often then come home with me and research all
the facts on the internet to then go back and assure Shelley it
was OK. He would ring our friends and family to organise visits to
help keep his mum company and then organise to be picked up and
dropped off himself while I was at work! When Shelley got home
from hospital I only had a week of leave left from work so Josh
made a point of learning all the procedures to help with her
illeostomy bag which wasn't pleasant but Josh didn't care. He
helped her when she was physically ill and would even clean it up
when I wasn't there, got her drinks, cleaned up around her stoma
and really just became a home nurse. He was a little legend who
acted way above his age."
Incidentally,
it will be Josh's second trip to the middle at Bluetongue. Back in
2007 he accompanied his uncle, Paul Jones, when the Wyoming First
Grade team was presented to the crowd following their win in that
year's Premier League Champion of Champions competition.

TAKE OUT GRAND FINAL THRILLER
21 Sep 2008: The Wyoming U15s has taken out the
club's third premiership, defeating Woy Woy 2-2 (4-2) in a penalty shoot out on Saturday. The team were also crowned League Champions.
After losing some key players from last year, the team was built this year around a strong
defence. It was this defence that led to the team only losing one game all year and in the process, conceding only 9 goals.
All previous encounters against Woy Woy have been extremely close games and the Grand Final was to prove no exception. After being down 1 nil midway through the first half, the boys fought their way back to be up 2-1 at the break.
The second half was a battle and the boys looked like they were going to hang on. Woy Woy kept pressuring and with 8 minutes to go, they got the equalizer. The game went into extra time and the battle continued. Both defences held firm during extra time and we found ourselves in another shoot out.
We were lucky enough to come out on top in the shoot out and win the title. Well done to all the boys from both teams, it was a great effort in difficult conditions.
I would also like to thank Bret Lomax and all of the boys that have filled in for us this year from the U14As, we could not have done it without you.
